Bute Park

56 acres of stunning parkland right in the heart of the city, adjoining Cardiff Castle. Features an arboretum with rare trees, a plant nursery, wildlife, the Taff Trail, and a popular cafe. One of the finest urban parks in Europe.

Roath Park

Enjoying Cardiff's Parks

All Cardiff parks are free to enter and open year-round. Many have playgrounds, sports facilities, and cafes. Dogs are welcome in most parks but must be kept on leads in certain areas. Check the Cardiff Council website for events, conservation activities, and volunteering opportunities.

Recycling Centres

Cardiff Council operates three Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) where residents can dispose of bulky items, garden waste, electronics, and other materials that cannot go in your regular bins. All centres are open Monday to Sunday.

Bessemer Road Recycling Centre

Centrally located recycling centre serving south and central Cardiff. Accepts general waste, garden waste, wood, metal, electrical items, textiles, paint, oil, batteries, and more.

Lamby Way Recycling Centre

Lamby Way, Rumney, Cardiff CF3 2EQ

Large east Cardiff site with extensive recycling facilities. Accepts all standard recyclable materials plus bulky waste, rubble, plasterboard, and hazardous household items.

Wedal Road Recycling Centre

Wedal Road, Heath, Cardiff CF14 3QX

North Cardiff recycling centre near Heath Park. Accepts all standard recyclable materials, electrical items, furniture, garden waste, and small amounts of construction waste.

Before You Visit

Booking may be required — check the Cardiff Council website for current arrangements. You will need proof of Cardiff residency (e.g. council tax bill or utility bill). Vans and trailers may need a permit. Commercial waste is not accepted — businesses should arrange separate trade waste collection.

Opening Hours

All three centres are open Monday to Sunday. Hours typically run from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM in summer and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM in winter, but check the council website for seasonal changes and bank holiday closures.
